Ever feel like your energy is stuck, your mind is foggy, and your body just can’t keep up? Life can feel like a never ending to do list, leaving us drained and disconnected. But just like a waterfall—constantly flowing, vibrant, and alive—you can always tap into your natural energy by nourishing your body and mind in simple yet powerful ways.
Here are five ways to get your energy flowing again and feel your best.
Stress is like a dam in your energy river, blocking the flow and leaving you feeling stuck. According to Michael Singer, author of The Untethered Soul (one of my favourite books) much of our stress comes from resisting life and holding onto negative energy.
When we relax and let go of this resistance, we allow our natural energy to flow freely, making us feel more alive, present, and joyful.
When your nervous system is overwhelmed, your body goes into "fight or flight" mode, making it hard to feel calm or happy or even become your ideal weight. By consciously relaxing your nervous system, you send a signal to your brain and body that it’s safe to let go. This creates space for clarity, creativity, and a deep sense of inner peace.
Here’s how you can start:
Relaxing your nervous system isn’t just about feeling calm; it’s about unlocking your ability to experience life fully. When your energy flows freely, you feel lighter, more joyful, and deeply connected to the world around you. It’s like removing a blockage in a stream—suddenly, everything moves with ease, and you feel alive.
There’s nothing quite as invigorating as jumping into a cold waterfall, creek, or even a refreshing shower. Cold water wakes up your body, boosts circulation, and triggers a rush of endorphins, leaving you feeling refreshed and energised. It’s like nature’s way of pressing the reset button on your energy levels.
Try This: If you don’t have access to a natural body of water, start with a cold blast at the end of your shower. Just 30 seconds can do wonders for your energy and focus. Even better, try and find a fresh water swimming hole or ocean and spend the day swimming re-booting your energy.
We spend so much time staring at screens—phones, computers, TVs—that it’s no wonder we feel mentally and physically drained. Constant screen time overstimulates your brain, disrupts your sleep, and steals your precious energy. Taking breaks from screens allows your body and mind to reset and reconnect with the world around you.
Try This: Set a timer for regular breaks throughout the day to step away from your devices. Use this time to stretch, take a walk, or simply look out the window and let your eyes rest.
Your body is like a waterfall, and food is the source of its flow. Nourish yourself with whole, nutrient-rich foods that provide sustained energy. Focus on the "Carefree Three": Fiber (from salads and non-starchy veggies) healthy fats (like avocados, butter, olive oil, fish) and protein (like lamb, eggs, beef, chicken. These foods help to stabilise your blood sugar, keep you full, and support your brain and body and certainly allow your energy to flow.
Try This: Start your day with a savory breakfast like eggs and avocado on a bed of leafy greens. This will give you steady energy to power through your morning.
My favourite! There’s nothing more grounding and energising than spending time in nature. Whether it’s hiking to a waterfall, walking barefoot on the grass, or simply sitting under a tree, nature has a way of recharging your batteries. The sights, sounds, and smells of the natural world help you relax and feel more alive.
Try This: Make it a goal to spend at least 20 minutes outside every day. Listen to the birds, feel the breeze, and let nature’s energy flow into you.
Like a waterfall, your energy can flow effortlessly when you remove the blocks and give your body what it needs. Relax your nervous system, immerse yourself in fresh water, take breaks from screens, nourish yourself with real foods, and connect with nature.
These simple yet powerful steps will help you feel revitalised and ready to take on life with renewed energy and purpose.
So, what’s your first step to letting your energy flow? Start small, and let your body show you just how vibrant it can be.
