Sugar’s a biggie and we can’t get away with eating it, like we did in our teens and in our 20’s.
As we get into, and past our 40’s our bodies go through absolute huge changes and our hormones start acting up way more than when we were younger.
This can make it harder for our bodies to stay healthy and manage things like our weight and energy levels. The phrase, ‘I never used to have to watch my weight’ is so common amongst my clients and it's because of these huge changes that our bodies go through as we get older.
The biggest key to combating these issues and bringing back your mojo and body to your liking, is to decrease sugar and starches within your diet. Yeah I know it sux to hear. But trust me when I say that it's so much easier when you eat foods that do this naturally.
So here are 6 foods that will help you to stop craving sugar and help you to feel fantastic on a daily basis.
1. Salmon - Powerhouse (but get good quality salmon).
2. Avocado - Probably the best! (go for one a day).
3. Eggs - Your best breakfast friend (don't be afraid of the yolk, it's where all the goodness is).
4. Dark chocolate - You don't have to be deprived, it's so good to dip into a warm cacao hot chocolate.
5. Olive oil - Ditch the canola, vegetable or sunflower oil. Drizzle some olive oil over your salads or veggies for an extra dose of healthy fats. Olive oil helps stabilise blood sugar levels and keeps you feeling full and satisfied.
6. Walnuts / Brazil nuts - Ditch the chips and handful of lollies and grab a handful of nuts, not peanuts though, they are actually a legume.
By incorporating these superfoods into your diet, you’ll be well-equipped to manage those sugar cravings while enjoying delicious and satisfying meals 🥑🥚🐟🍫🌰💚
So…. the key now is to add one of these foods to your plate or snack this week. Perhaps swap your sweet breakfast for avocado and eggs, maybe your Cadbury chocolate to some Lindt 70%, or maybe your chips, dried fruit or lollies for some walnuts or Brazil nuts.
Decreasing your sugar intake is a game changer and is almost vital as we get older to maintain a clear mind and happy body. It does take a little discipline, more so to be organised than anything else because when you choose more of the foods like the ones in this blog post you will not be as hungry and you will feel super satisfied for longer.
