Are you on a quest to increase your energy? As a Nutritionist, helping people to beat fatigue is something I love to do. The secret doesn't lie in loading your plate with countless new foods, but rather in avoiding a select few that drain your vitality. Here's the key: boosting your energy isn't solely about what you add to your meals; it's about what you avoid strategically.
Steer Clear of Energy Drainers
Imagine this scenario: you consume foods that promise heightened energy, yet you unknowingly also include options that sap your motivation and strength. It just defeats the whole purpose. The truth is, not all energy-boosting foods are created equal and pairing them with energy-depleting counterparts can sabotage your success.
Mindful Sugar and Carb Management
First up for reassessment: sugars and carbs. Think of bread, pasta, cake, crackers, and processed juices. They might offer a quick energy spike, but in truth it's actually just a dopamine hit, and the subsequent crash is inevitable. Carbs and sugar provide an initial surge, but the fall is swift.
Try Not to Eat too Often
Often people think that eating and snacking all the time will boost their energy. Depending on your level of exercise frequent eating might not be the answer. Constant digestion can paradoxically decrease your overall vitality. The key is finding balance and timing schedule that suits you. Try going for longer periods before each meal and see if you notice a difference in your energy. Also, making sure that you don't eat right before bed can also help with your energy the next morning.
Eating the Right Way
So, what should be your focus? Balance and deliberate choices. Opt for a moderate intake of proteins, like salmon and quality beef, complemented by healthy fats and ensure you are getting enough of the minerals potassium and magnesium. Potassium is crucial for creating cellular energy and is found in veggies and salads, you need a large amount of potassium so aim for as many cups of salad and veg per day as you can. Magnesium can also be found in salads and vegetables making it very convenient. Magnesium is responsible for powering your cell's energy factories (mitochondria) helping you live an energised and happy life.
B Vitamins and Healthy Fats
Among the different kinds of nutrients, B vitamins are also champions of your body's energy factory. They help make the energy your cells need to work.. While not obligatory, consider incorporating nutritional yeast to supercharge your nutrition. And don't underestimate fats – MCT oil is brain fuel, while animal fats like pastured butter, eggs, and nuts (like pecans) provide sustained energy and endurance.
