What are electrolytes and why to we need them? 

Before we dive into the refreshing recipe, let's talk about what electrolytes are and why they are so crucial for our bodies, especially in the hot Queensland weather. Electrolytes are essential minerals, including sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, that play a vital role in maintaining proper hydration and overall health.

Imagine your cells as tiny batteries, each with its voltage, powering the interactions between nerves and muscles. The sodium-potassium pump is like the battery charger, maintaining the electrical charge within your cells. When you're low on sodium and potassium, your muscles and nerves can't function at their best, leading to fatigue and weakness.

Ingredients

1/2 - 1 ripe avocado 🥑 for potassium, magnesium, and calcium.
1/2 - 1 cup of berries 🍓 for additional potassium and magnesium.
A squeeze of lemon 🍋.
A pinch of sea salt 🧂 for sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, chloride, and various trace minerals.
A dash of apple cider vinegar 🍏 for added potassium and magnesium.
Optional: honey 🍯 or stevia drops 🍃 for sweetness.
Ice cubes ❄️ to keep it cool.

Instructions:

Place the ripe avocado, berries, lemon juice, sea salt, and apple cider vinegar into a blender. 🥑🍓🍋🧂

Add a litre of water to the mix 💦 If you're exercising vigorously or sweating heavily in the hot tropics, consider increasing the amount of sea salt to around a quarter of a teaspoon  🧂
If you prefer a sweeter taste, add honey or a few drops of stevia. 🍯🍃
Drop in some ice cubes to keep your smoothie refreshingly chilled. ❄️
Blend it all together until you have a smooth, creamy consistency.
